ACTIVITY ASSISTANT, Westlake, OH

Assists with the planning and implementation of activities for nursing home residents. Helps design programs to encourage socialization, provide entertainment, relaxation and fulfillment, and improve daily living skills. Duties will involve personal contact with a varying resident population and a varied work schedule that will include some weekends, evening and holidays. Tasks also will involve record keeping, attention to the environment, use of supplies and equipment and maintenance of storage areas.
Associates degree preferred. Preference is given to persons with experience in long term setting and/or certification as a State Tested Nursing Assistant.
Communicate and work effectively with various levels of staff, residents, family members and the public.
Energetic, positive and a take charge disposition who enjoys working with elderly population.
Ability to read, understand, and follow activity directions and work assignments. Able and willing to work flexible hours, such as during an emergency situation. Must be patient and tolerate toward residents, family members and co-workers.
Ability to work independently and follow scheduled plans.
Experience in long term and memory care a plus.
Physical Requirements Stands and walks throughout the working day. Reaches, stoops, bends, lifts, carries, and manipulates various Activity supplies and equipment. Must be able to lift or carry up to 20 pounds. Must be able to push residents in wheelchairs to and from activity areas.
Duties: Listed below is a partial list of the duties to this position. Other duties may be assigned by the Activities Director upon request.
Assist with activities as directed by the Activity Director and in accordance with each resident's plan of care.
Set up areas as needed for the type of activity planned and follow instructions ofr the activity as instructed.
Assist residents who desire to participate to group.
Encourage and praise resident's response throughout activity and observe individual resident participation and responses during activity.
Interact appropriately and effectively in one to one activities according to the resident's strengths and limitations.
Assist residents back to living areas at the conclusion of the activity.
Be aware of resident's individual cognitive, emotional and psychosocial impairments. Complete documentation and recordkeeping tasks.
Chaperone scheduled activities away from facility grounds as directed.
Help maintain a pleasant and cheerful environment.
Assist with putting up and taking down seasonal and other decorations.
Hang monthly Activity Calendar in resident's room or where directed.
Notify Activity Director of supplies or equipment needs, report equipment breakdowns and unsafe conditions to Activity Director.
Clean equipment and work areas as assigned by the Activity Director.
Ensure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity and respect.
Report all grievances and complaints made by the resident to the Dietary Manager.
Maintains compliance with all HIPAA regulations.
Ability to accept assigned duties in a cooperative manner.
Ability to assume accountability for all data contained in the employee's handbook.
Perform other department duties assigned by the Activity Director.
