Design Services at the University of North Carolina is looking for a graphic designer with newspaper layout experience to work on the design of the University Gazette. The Gazette is UNC’s faculty and staff newspaper. This publication is sent out to 13,250 University employees, and is additionally posted online for an even broader audience.
The Gazette comes out 21 times each year. Two days of working on-site at the University Gazette will be necessary for each production period.
DUTIES INCLUDE
• Work with Editor and Assistant Editor to layout out stories and artwork in a clear and effective manner.
• Able to work from a pre-existing design style, but with the ability to design from scratch spreads and special features where appropriate.
• Communicate with Editor and Assistant Editor when there are spacing issues and work with them to find solutions.

Specific Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in design from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Must have 1-2 years experience of newspaper layout.
• Computer skills on a Macintosh platform. Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop). Knowledge of InCopy a plus.
• Takes direction well, and is flexible with changes and edits.
• Works well under deadlines.
• Must be detail oriented and precise.
